My Sacred Circle Mandala Journal

A Creative Workbook for Self-Discovery & Exploration
By Mia Barkan Clarke, MA, ATR-BC, LCAT

My Sacred Circle Mandala Journal was conceived by author, artist, and NYS Licensed, Registered, and Board Certified Art Therapist Mia Barkan to encourage individuals to engage in ongoing creative expression. It provides an outlet for self-discovery, exploration, and empowerment through the arts. This workbook supports emotional expression and healing through creative means, with an emphasis on the process rather than the final product. No previous art experience is required. The workbook contains 28 different mandala directives.

Freya's Tears — Poetry & Art by Mia Barkan Clarke

Freya's Tears

Poetry & Art — By Mia Barkan Clarke

Freya's Tears is the third collection of poetry and art by Mia Barkan Clarke. It includes translations into Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish. Freya, the Norse goddess of love, lust, magic, war, and death, is the source of my inspiration for this series and my personal muse. She is loved and desired by all, yet she longs only for Odin, the "All Father," King of the gods, who is absent, fighting battles across the universe. She sits and waits for Odin, crying tears of red-gold, alone on her golden throne with her two faithful cats by her side. It is said that the amber stones found on the shores of the Baltic Sea are called "Freya's Tears," which gave birth to the name of this series. Come, viewer: see and taste the nectar and ambrosia of Freya's Tears. —Mia Barkan Clarke, from the Preface

Tea with Nana — by Mia Barkan Clarke

Tea with Nana

Poetry & Art — By Mia Barkan Clarke

Tea with Nana is a book of paintings and poems created throughout the life of a woman who, from an early childhood on Long Island, was surrounded by her artist mother's paintings and her poet-publisher father's books. This book is an exploration of her inner and outer world, spanning local and international settings, through English and several other languages (Hebrew, French, Italian). In a very real sense, it is a cross-cultural journey from birth and childhood through girlhood, adolescence, and maturation as an extraordinarily sensitive and thoughtful woman, wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend, teacher, and therapist. Her range is from Eve to Sister of the World, from her Jewish culture through the world cultures that include the Armenian, the Sicilian, and the Blackfoot. This book is an exploration of Woman in all her phases and history, from the beginning to the present with a view toward the future. In every sense, it is the saga of a woman who is Everywoman.

"An extraordinary marriage of words and art … I bought this book for the poems, and I was not disappointed. The delicacy of the images, the intimate connection between nature and its effect on humans, and the spiritual longing of the soul are all on display here. What is perhaps most startling about the volume, however, are the striking paintings throughout the book. The figure studies that constitute a celebration of the feminine are unfailingly beautiful, even breath-taking. The joining of word and image is always just right. This is a volume to savor."

Kutia Me Pene: Box of Feathers — by Mia Barkan

Kutia Me Pene: Box of Feathers

Poetry & Art (Albanian / English) — By Mia Barkan

"The poetry book Box of Feathers by the American poet Mia Barkan, masterfully translated into Albanian by Jeton Kelmendi, is a profound journey into the world of emotions and nature. Each poem becomes an open window into the human soul, where metaphors and symbols build bridges between reality and imagination. Through natural landscapes and deep emotions, Barkan constructs a universe where pain, love, loss, and hope coexist in harmony.  The translation of this volume is not merely a linguistic act but a careful interpretation of sensitivity and the melody of words. The book is presented in both English and Albanian.  Jeton Kelmendi successfully preserves the emotional depth of the verses, offering Albanian readers the true experience of Barkan's poetry. Poems such as 'A Pair' and 'Borage Butterfly' highlight the poet's intimate connection with nature and her inner universe. This book is a call for reflection and an invitation to discover the simple yet profound beauty hidden within every word. It offers a unique poetic experience that lingers long in memory."
